In 2026, Amsterdam holds a double designation it has never carried before: WorldPride and EuroPride, in the same year, in the same city. The timing isn’t random โ 1 April 2026 marks 25 years since the Netherlands performed the world’s first legal same-sex marriages. Two and a half weeks of programming, from 25 July to 8 August, turn Amsterdam into the global center of LGBTQIA+ celebration and activism.
This guide covers what actually matters if you’re planning to attend: the real dates, the Canal Parade route, where to base yourself, what costs money versus what’s free, and a few practical tips that aren’t obvious until you’re standing on a crowded quay wondering where the nearest toilet is.
This Year’s Pride Anthem
Every WorldPride needs a soundtrack. For 2026, Amsterdam-based artist BamBass teamed up with Platform Vrij โ a Dutch platform supporting LGBTQIA+ people with a migration background โ to release an original anthem written specifically for this Pride.

When Is WorldPride Amsterdam 2026?
WorldPride Amsterdam 2026 runs for fifteen days, from Saturday 25 July through Saturday 8 August. The program splits naturally into two phases: the first week is the local Pride Amsterdam celebration, building up to the Canal Parade on 1 August. The second week shifts into WorldPride-specific programming โ the Human Rights Conference, the international march, and the closing concert on 8 August.
Few visitors do the full fifteen days. Most pick one of two windows:
- Canal Parade weekend (30 July โ 3 August): the boats, the street parties, and the biggest crowds. This is what most people picture when they think “Amsterdam Pride.”
- Closing week (5โ8 August): the WorldPride Village, the Human Rights Conference, and the international March โ better suited to those more interested in the activism side than the party side.
The Canal Parade: Route, Times & Best Viewing Spots
The Canal Parade is the event’s centerpiece โ the only Pride parade in the world that takes place entirely on water. On Saturday 1 August, from 12:00 to 18:00, around 80 decorated boats carrying LGBTQIA+ organisations from more than 80 countries sail through Amsterdam’s 17th-century canal ring. Between 500,000 and 750,000 spectators are expected along the banks.
|
Oosterdok โ Nieuwe Herengracht โ Amstel โ Prinsengracht โ Westerdok |
The first boats reach the start of the Prinsengracht roughly 30โ60 minutes after the official 12:00 start, so don’t worry about being exactly on time. Viewing the parade from the canal banks is free, but the most popular stretches โ particularly along the Prinsengracht and Keizersgracht โ fill up early. For a calmer experience with the same view of every boat, the Nieuwe Herengracht stretch tends to be less crowded.
A few practical notes: amplified music on moored boats or along the shore has been banned since 2019, so don’t expect speaker setups at your viewing spot. The streets are car-free with a parking ban running the entire day. If you want to watch from a private boat, you’ll need a Pride Vignette โ sales open 1 July via the official Canal Parade ticketing partner.
| โ Arrive 1โ2 hours early to secure a spot along the route | โ Bring a blanket, sunscreen, and water โ you’ll be outside for hours |
| โ Use trams or walk โ cars aren’t allowed near the canals on parade day | โ Carrying your own alcohol along the route isn’t permitted |

Practical Tips for First-Time Visitors
- Rent a bike. Amsterdam has more bikes than people, and the entire city is built around cycling โ it’s often faster than walking or transit.
- Get an OV-chipkaart for trams and the metro; many tram routes shift slightly during major events.
- Most events are free. The Canal Parade, street parties, Pride Park, and the WorldPride March don’t require tickets. Only the Human Rights Conference and select concerts are ticketed.
- Build in rest days. Cobblestones, crowds, and long hours on your feet add up โ a free afternoon is part of a good plan, not a wasted one.
- The Netherlands ranks among the safest countries in the world for LGBTQ+ travelers, with strong legal protections and widespread public acceptance of affection between same-sex couples.
